UNFORTUNATELY, I made a terrible mistake by not knowing how to get clients!
Within 6 months, my family was tired of me doing transcriptions into the wee hours of the morning to supplement my income while waiting on clients and begged me to go back to being an "employee" with stable income.
The thought of having to go back and be something that didn't fit my ideals, allow me to grow, or be flexible for my daughter made me sick to my stomach. It was then I decided to try any and every idea I could think of to get clients just to pay my already behind bills and try to dig out of my crummy credit score.
I wanted to enjoy running a home business, but instead found nothing but stress and more debt. I was feeling very defeated.
I told myself that I would give myself 6 more months (with the help of my parents and significant other financially, because my credit cards were already maxed and not being paid on).
I remember one night after everyone was asleep I just sat on my couch and cried uncontrollably. Typically, I'm not a crier. So this is how much I was moved to sadness and desperation. There had to be a better way than attending social networking meetings in person, spending money I didn't have on Google AdWords to get people to my site (and most of them were aspiring VAs instead of clients), and spending every day wishing instead of doing.
The next day, I created the new marketing model that would transform my VA business (and my personal life) forever!
Here I Am Today
I wake up early in the morning each weekday and get my daughter ready for school. I begin my work day when I return home, working for only clients that fit my ideal, doing only the tasks for them that I enjoy doing, and having the flexibility to schedule my day the way I need to so I can still be there for my daughter when she needs me. I spend the late afternoons talking with her and helping her with her homework or just learning new things from her (we have a mutual learning relationship). In the evenings, I log into my social networking sites as well as helping my clients that are also virtual assistants succeed in their own business through coaching or consulting.
I pick and choose all projects and people that I work with turning away those that I feel will give me a headache or be more trouble than their worth. I work only with serious aspiring virtual assistants who want to enjoy what they do, balance family life, and make an excellent living all at the same time, because YES, you can do it. I am living proof.

Cathy's Story
